Macromolecules/polymers are larger more complex molecules such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. An emergent property in them is that they are built of monomers (repeating blocks). Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is the best example as it carries genetic instructions for the development, functioning, growth, and reproduction of all known organisms, such as myself.
ORGANELLES
Aggregated macromolecules surrounded by membranes form tiny structures that exist in cells called organelles. The cell membrane is made up of macromolecules and a phospholipid bilayer that gives the organelle an emergent property of separating the interior of all cells from the outside environment; this protects the cell from its environment. Mitochondria is the main organelle involved in cellular respiration- our source of energy.
