Kosoko King. British military action to stop save trade in 1851 and in 1861 ceded to Britian under rule from the gold coast. First modern hospital was only built in 1896. Grew over that time primarily as people saught refuge from civil wars.

From late 1890's Lagos growth driven by shipping and agricultural cash crops and exports, including rubber, palm and cocoa. in 1901 introduced cotton and other cash crops thereafter.
