Sustainable Fashion (Project Coggle)
Need For Sustainable Fashion
Fashion is the second dirtiest industry in the world, following right after oil
Due to speedy production and over consumption, the fashion industry has landed itself on an environmentally damaging path, much different than 100 years ago.
we consume 80 billion pieces of clothing a month; which is a 400% increase from two decades ago.
This clothing as well, unless specified as fair trade or organic, contains harmful dyes, toxins and pesticides that seep into the Earth’s system when thrown away
to make one cotton t-shirt today uses up 2,700 gallons of fresh water.
Environmental Impact of Fast Fashion
Making a pair of jeans produces as much greenhouse gases as driving a car more than 80 miles.
Discarded clothing made of non-biodegradable fabrics can sit in landfills for up to 200 years.
It takes 2,700 liters of water to make one cotton shirt, enough to meet the average person’s drinking needs for two-and-a-half years.
How much Clothing do we waste
1 garbage truck of clothes are burned or landfilled every second
2625 kgs of clothing
Enough to fill 1.5 empire state buildings
enough to fill Sydney Harbor every year
82,782,000,000 kgs of clothing
The Societal Impacts of Fast Fashion
According to non-profit Remake, 75 million people are making our clothes today, and 80 percent of apparel is made by young women between the ages of 18 and 24.
Garment workers, primarily women, in Bangladesh make about $96 per month. The government’s wage board suggested that a garment worker needs 3.5 times that amount in order to live a “decent life with basic facilities.”
A 2018 U.S. Department of Labor report found evidence of forced and child labor in the fashion industry in Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Turkey, Vietnam and other countries.
Advantages of Sustainable Fashion
People are being treated well and paid fairly. People who make clothes have been overworked, underpaid, and forced to work in inhumane conditions where they can’t even take bathroom breaks.
Brand are turning waste materials into new products. These trends help us innovate solutions for our ever growing clothing waste problems.
Brand are being kinder to the environment. Brands like Outerknown make jeans in factories that recycle and filter all of the water used in production.
Ethical fashion is higher quality. This means you get well made clothes that last longer.
my project is
To Launch a fashion brand that is going to eliminate all the disadvantages of fast fashion
its name is Sustainable Fashion and the product name is MAHOL DOST KAPRAY
It is going to pay people fair wage
it is going to empower women and is saying no to child labor
its going to reduce water waste on a substantial level
it is going to use organic cotton and natural dyes
these dyes and cotton self destruct themselves and do become a toxic part of environment
these clothes last longer hence they are named as sustainable fashion
i am going to
start by doing some research about its potential
then i am going to start buying raw materials and hire human resource
i am going to make a proper timeline and methodology and do everything according to it. my methodology is shown in another coggle
after production i am going to market my product
