Prep Reaction" Pyruvate enters the matrix in the mitochondria. It is then converted into 2 Carbon acetyl group. It attaches to an enzyme to form Acetyl coA. Electrons are picked up by NAD+. This creates CO2 as a byproduct.
Citric Acid Cycle: 2 carbon acetyl -> 4 carbon molecule -> citrate. Via oxidation CO2 is released. ATP is produced.

ETC: Electrons from NADH FADH2 are passed down ETC until O2 takes them up -> H2O. H+ is pumped into inter-membrane. This creates an electrochemical gradient. An enzyme then synthesizes ATP.
