The Hollowness of Upper Class
Daisy's character seems hollow because she has never loved without interest, she loved Gatsby for his wealth and she married Tom for his wealth as well
Toms not faithful and barely has any morals
They are unhappy even though they have so much wealth that should be keeping them "happy"
Tom and Daisy have been married for over 5 years but their relationship is broken, it seems as is their broken relationship is covered up by their wealth
Unhappy rich people
Gatsby is also hallow because he only got wealthy to attain Daisy's love
Hollow victory
Gatsby is stubborn he has held on to the past while Daisy has moved on
Insincere
"I hope she will be a fool - that's a best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful fool" this quotation shows the hollowness of Daisy's thoughts. Daisy is trying to imply if you are the upper class you don't need intelligence.
Meaningless
Tom, Daisy, Jordan and Nick are all originally from the West. They are all trying to fit into the lifestyle of people in New York. This shows hollowness of the rich because they act fake to try fitting into the society's standards
Tom finds himself to be superior to colored people. He is very racist. His lack of empathy towards everything the colored people have went through shows the hollowness of Toms character
American Dream
Gatsby works hard to attain wealth so he could be accepted by the high class
Gatsby suffers from the American Dream
Gatsby was successfully able to attain wealth but he was never accepted by the upper class
For example; even with all his riches Tom questioned Gatsby, everyone questioned Gatsby and once his true identity was revealed it was easy for Daisy to let go of him
Every character seems to be working towards American Dream for wealth and prosperity
Gatsby is an example of how the American Dream might just be a dream and nothing else
Ensures all Americans the possibility of upward social mobility, as long as they work for it
Class
Daisy was wowed by looking at Gatsbys mansion
Gatsby wanted to show Daisy his mansion cause he realized she was materialistic
Daisy married Tom because he has a stable wealth. He was of the high class
Gatsby lied about his status when he was still a soldier to get Daisy's love
When Gatsby was still a soldier he was attracted to Daisy's wealth
Myrtle married Wilson cause she thought he was rich “I thought he knew something about breeding, but he wasn’t fit to lick my shoe.”
Gatsby worked hard, he even got into illegal business just so he could attain objects that would attract Daisy
