Lit / Eal speech
4) Measuring impact
-
Student, parent, teachers surveys. Already done this with IA
-
-
-
3) EAL: great number who don't speak E @ home, 17% registered EAL - these students face challenges (learning new lang, making friends, shift in cultural expectations
Focus on promoting academic lit in school - benefical to all students. Bell Foundation - proficiency in English vital in understanding EAL educational achievement
therefore must plan, teach, model academic lit - spelling tests tier 2 & 3 words, teachers to model orally and in writing academic discourse, assemblies to model and celebrate
Review provision in EAL lessons - silver discontinued, disseminate clearer information to staff on characteristics of EAL students
Review assessment of EAL students across subjects. My mark scheme in English - consult with HODS. Also wrote exam paper for nurture.
Work with Aidan & Anna to coordinate EAL timetables, lessons etc - demonstrated this ability as IA coordinator & as HOD when organising intervention
Wider provision for EAL - foster respect, understanding and acceptance. IA and BSF, enrichment.
Parent communication and support: ensure messages are unstood, coffee mornings
Could also use contacts from my time working in West London - some of whom worked for Education Endowment Foundation - trialled interventions to develop training for mainstream teachers on EAL
-
Finally - overall my aim is to help further our provision, and in turn to really 'know our students' .
