In interphase, there are three substages. If the cell, after mitosis does not wish to participate in another round of mitosis, then it can go into the G0 phase which is when the cell breaks down its division mechanisms and is able to exist in an almost static state. Most cells in the human body are in this stage. However, if the cell decides to divide, the G1 stage is when the cell is growing and proliferating. There is no preparation for mitosis at this stage, however the cell is able to grow in size and participate in its usual activities. Next, in the S phase, this is where the DNA that is present in the nucleus is able to undergo replication. After the DNA replicates, the centrioles are also able to replicate and thus preparation for mitosis begins. Finally, in the G2 phase, the cell is at the same stage of preparing for cellular division
