You Need To Calm Down (YNTCD)
Points out the faults of online bullying...
Say it in the street, that's a knock-out/But you say it in a Tweet, that's a cop-out. This means that if you were to say something in the street, one would get beat up, but if you say it online you can miss the consequences.
But I've learned a lesson that stressin' and obsessin' 'bout somebody else is no fun. She could be mentioning the numerous online feuds she's had with Katy Perry, the Kardashians... And now that she is feud free how much better her life has been.
Like can you just not step on our gowns?. This is when TS is asking the haters to stop hating, and pulling them down.
And we see you over there on the internet/Comparing all the girls who are killing it /But we figured you out /We all know now we all got crowns
This verse is showing the people who would compare TS with all the other famous female singers (Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Adele, Katy Perry) but they don't need to be compared as they are all very popular and have many awards each, and don't need to be compared as they are all very good. Pointing out there is space for everyone at the top
Is allying herself with LGBTQ+ group
In the video shows farmers who are stereotyped as "old fashioned" or even left behind on modern day activities.
"Why are you mad/ When you could be GLAAAD. GLAAAD is a gay activist group which Taylor Swift has been standing with for years.
But you would rather be in the dark age / Just makin' that sign must've taken all night. Mentioning how being against LGBTQ+ means one is left behind in the times and cannot stand seeing to men, women... SO one may want to be in the dark ages of history, without the gay presence. And with the "extremely witty" anti-gay signs that many haters come up with.
'Cause shade never made anybody less gay. Meaning all the haters are not effecting the gays, so they are screaming for nothing.
