Analysis
The very first thing you should do is read the extract and highlight useful information and devices. Read and highlight first.
Types of questions
1.First, you will have 2 easier questions, where you find information or explain in your own words. They may look like this:
-
-
2.Then you will have a comparison question. This should be quite simple if you read the question. Display what it tells you to show.
2) Compare how we are expected to think about parrots with the experience of the narrator. Use a quotation to support 4 marks

More types of questions
3.Then you will have questions to test your analytical skills. Read the question and see what the topic is. You should write one small paragraph for language and one for structure.
We will expect: device names, evidence, exploration and discussion of what the reader gains.
3) Explore how language and structure are used to present the experience in paragraph 5 to the end, starting ‘It was like…’. (6)
-
-
4.Then you will have the biggest question: the evaluation. The question will give you a statement and you need to: explain how FAR you agree and give a reason why, provide evidence for this; explain how a reader feels; continually link to words of the statement.
At the top end, we will expect to see multiple ideas. 10 marks
