Barriers in the way of Effective Delegation
I. On the part of superior
(i) Over Confidence of Superior
Managers think
only they
can do work,
no one can
work better
than him,
for reason
refuse
to delegate
authority.
(ii) Lack of Confidence in Superior
Essence delegation
mutual confidence
& trust.
Lack of confidence
capacity of subordinates
obstructs superior
delegate authority
(iii) Lack of Ability to Direct.
Superior may
not able
to identify
areas which
require delegation,
if identifies
not check
out process
effective delegation.
(iv) Lack of Proper Control.
While delegating,
manager ensure
authoriy being
delegated is in
proper hands,
but if
does not
exercise adequate
control,
hesitate to
delegate authority
II. On the part of subordinates
(i) Fear of Criticism
Subordinates hesitate
accept authority
feeling will
be criticised
even for
small mistake.
(II) Dependence on Boss.
Subordinates shirk
from accepting
authority if
finds easier
to ask boss
taking decisions
while solving
problems.
(III) Lack of Information
Inadequacy information
&lack of resources
act as obstacle
in way
of accepting
authority by
subordinates.
(IV) Over Burdened with work
One of legitimate
reason to
refuse accepting
authority the subordinates
already over
burdened with
excess work.
III. On the part of organisation
i. inadequate planning & policy information.
iii. Lack of effective control techniques.
iv. Non-clarity of authority responsibility relationship.
ii. Violation to principle unity of command.
v. Vague organisational structure.
