analysis-this phrase is repeated in the poem which emphasises readers feeling of discomfort after killing the person

analysis- the physical description of the place is dry and dusty which reminds the reader that the soldiers are at wars and that they have to bey the orders from higher people

The poem is written in the form of a anecdotal and it begins with 'On another occasion' suggesting that this is not the only unpleasant things that have occurred with the soldiers
in the story the soldier shot a man dead and one of the soldiers 'tossed' the 'guts' suggesting the careless ness and disrespect.
later in the poem we see the soldier suffering from ptsd because every time he walks, he walks with blood shadow

the poem in made from eight stanzas. First seven have 4 lines and are very unrhymed whilst the last stanza is only made from 2 lines.. This makes the last line stand out causing it to show how the soldier can not take his mind of the murder and it also hints at his mind being dis orientated

the imagery of the killing is very brutal and graphic. This can be seen as the bullets 'rip' through the body and the body is inside out. The writer does not make any lies about the detail as he says one of his mate 'tossed' guts back int the body. This shows the reader the disturbance and trauma the soldier has to carry after the war is over
