The Great Depression
WSC led to the Great Depression because of: lost savings, wage cuts, less consumer spending, the struggle of newer/luxury industries, much less credit available and businesses earning less.
Other factors which led to the Great Depression: under-consumption, overproduction, falling income of farmers, failing banks and problems in Europe.

Hoover tried to help America recover from the Great Depression. However due to his Republican beliefs which went against helping the people and providing people with what they needed, he was unable to.
Sacco and Vanzetti Case.
On 15th April 1920, there was an armed robbery in Braintree Massachusetts.

The anti evolution league of American was set up to campaign against the teaching of Darwin's theory in schools.
They succeeded in Tennessee, who made it illegal for Darwin's theory to be taught in school. Anyone caught doing so would be fined up to $500.
A few modernists in the town of Dayton approached John Scopes, a high school teacher to volunteer to break the law to see if it was enforceable in the courts
Scopes then tested this, and was arrested.
The trial ended with the Fundamentalists winning, but the trial helped Modernists to make some progress.
The Wall Street Crash
The stock exchange began to rely more heavily on confidence rather than on successful businesses, so without confidence, the whole system began to collapse.
Stock market leaders began to sell their shares as they expected prices to fall as they had realised that the stock was not aligned with the realities of the US economy.
experienced investors then began to pull out of the stock market, and by 1929, most investors were desperate to sell their shares as prices continued to drop.
By 13th November, stocks reached their lowest point. By this time, many investors were ruined and had lost their fortunes.
People affected: investors, banks and people with savings in banks.
