Clexane (Enoxaparin)

Dose

The dose should be given at the same time each day.

The dose of Clexane differ with each patient. Body weight is taken into consideration for each dose.

It administrated into the stomach. 5 cm away from the belly button roughly 3 fingers. Avoid bruised or scarred tissue.

Clexane is administrated through a subcutaneous injection. The skin needs to be pinched and the injection is administered at an 90-degree angle.

Clexane increases the patient risk of bruising or bleeding.

Clexane is given as preventative medication to avoid blood clots in patient after they have had a surgical procedure or their mobility it limited.

Clexane also is a preventative medication for Deep vein thrombosis. Risk factors for DVT are age, prolonged immobilisation, cardiac disease, obesity and pregnancy are some of the few.

Renal impairment should also be taken in to consideration when the medication is charted for the patient.

For every injection a different site should be used

Allergy to Clexane

High risk of uncontrolled haemorrhage

Acute bacterial endocarditis

Not to be administered intramuscular

Low weight can lead to a higher risk of bleeding

Never recap the needle once injected the patient

Clexane is also used to treat certain types of heart disease such as heart attacks

Always check the expiry date of the Clexane before administrating

Inflammation around the injection site

Bleeding at the injection site
