Enzymes
Function
Function as catalysers, speeding biochemical reactions in the organism up.
Substrates bind with the active site, where they will be turned into products.
If they aren't working at their ideal temperature and pH, enzymes may become deformed and unable to bind with substrates (Denaturation).
-
Since they are catalysts, enzymes are not consumed in the reaction.
-
Inhibitors
Molecules that bind with the enzyme without forming a product, therefore reducing its activity.
-
-
Cofactors are usually metal ions, while coenzymes are usually organic molecules (ex: vitamins)
