Supermarkets
a) How can products be used to encourage customers to eat healthily?
recipe board
large wooden board (recyclable) with recipes printed on them
QR codes with more recipes ( all healthy )
the QR codes can give a shopping list of different things you need to buy for this recipe
some people may have different dieting requests
different options for different diets such as vegetarian/vegan, gluten free, nut free. Or different recipes that are adaptable for these reasons
leaflet holders attached to put recipes in to take away with you
shelving
having healthier products at eye level makes it better and easier to buy healthier products
having containers with fruit and veg at eye level, with mist over it to keep it looking fresh and more appealing to people so they are more likely to buy it. ( Morrisons )
signs around the shop
wooden signs underneath food products encouraging you to buy this over another one
the signs show nutritional levels easily and why this food product is healthy and good for you and why the other one is not.
some people may not understand the numbers and nutritional facts
compare it to bags of sugar. For example "this donut is worth 7 sugar cubes, why not have this cereal bar for a healthier tasty snack"
user requirements
The product should be aimed at anyone buying in the store so from teenagers right up to pensioners, however it should mainly be directed at customers who are doing their weekly shop and buying their dinners for the next few nights. It should be aimed at these people because if people are not in the store to buy a large shop then they have a specific list of things that they need to buy. The user must be able to see any product clearly so any writing will have to be large in order for pensioners with bad eyesight to see it.
performance requirements
The product must be eye catching and instantly persuasive in order for it to be effective, if it is not eye catching people will simply not see it. Then if it is not persuasive or interesting then shoppers will simply move on and not bother to take it on board.
sustainability
The product should be made from recyclable materials such as wood and metal and should be made with as little waste and energy as possible to reduce the environmental impact of the product.
(b) How can products be used to encourage the donation of food items to food banks in stores?
Donation boxes
large boxes placed around the store with information on them saying where the food is going
made of wood so completely recyclable, with wheels so when people are collecting donations they can wheel the box out easily
QR codes on the side of the boxes with more information about the food, who its helping, where its going and why its useful
targeted at shoppers who have enough extra to donate, right in the line of view so people can see them
bright and colourful pictures on them so you cant miss them
signs directing people to donation boxes
wooden, recyclable
saying things such as: "some people aren't as fortunate, they are going hungry tonight, donate to make a change
brightly painted so you can easily see them, in the line of view for shoppers so they don't miss the signs
QR codes with more information about where the food is going to and to who it is going to
on products that are really useful for food donation such as foods that last longer, having signs underneath
having wooden (recyclable) signs underneath food products that are better for donation asking for people to buy an extra one of these to put in the donation boxes
the signs have QR codes on for more information on why people should donate and who the food is going to
signs should say something like this: "why not buy an extra one?" ( talking about the food product ) "this could save someone from going hungry tonight"
signs bright and colourful so you cant miss them
client and user requirements
the product should be aimed at any shopper who has enough money to buy an extra can or box of something to give some thing to the food bank, so primarily middle age adults to pensioners. The product should be easily visible so people an see and read it.
performance requirements
the product must have clear instructions on how, what and where to donate. It also should be eye catching and persuasive in order to be as effective as possible. The product should also explain why it is important to donate food to food banks and how the food donated will help. The more people who are aware of the issue the more help the issue will get
