contact and non-contact forces
non-contact and non-contact
vectors
vectors have a magnitude and a direction
physical quantities are force , velocity , displacement , acceleration and momentum
contact force - friction , air resistance , tension in popes and normal contact force
two intecting objects there is force produced in both objects
non-contact force - magnetic force , gravitational force and electrostatic force
scalar
expels are speed , distance , mass ,temperature and time
no direction and only have magnitued
represented by an arrow - the length show magnitude and direction show the direction of the quantity
sun and erath are attracted to each other by a non-contact force . force felt by both the sun and the earth
a chair exacts force from the ground whilst the ground pushes back the chair with the same force , equal force so felt by both chair and ground
weight
mass
gravitational
attracts all mass
only noticed on something really big like the gravitational force attached to a plant
on the surface of the plant it make all thing more towards the ground
gravity make everything have a weight
weight of an object depends on the gravitational field at the location - weight changes in different locations e.g. earth or moon
a force measured in newtons using spring balance so it act at the centre of mass
the force attaching on an object due to it gravity - course the gravitational field around the earth
the closer you are to the mas the stronger the gravitational filed strength
not a force measured in kilograms with mass balance
amount of stuff in an objects and has the same value anywhere
weight = mass (kg) X gravitational field strength
increasing the mass increase the weight of an object they are direct proportionality
overall force
free body diagrams
size of the arrow show the relative magnitudes of the force and the direction show the direction the forces acting on the objects
show this information in free body diagrams
describe the force acting on an object e.g. skydiver weight pull him down where as the drag act in the opposite direction
number of forces acting act a single point can be replaced with a single forces - called resultant force
foce acting upon the same line has an overall effect found by adding those going in the same direction and subtracting any going the operate way
in real situation there at least two forces acting on an object along any direction
work done
to make something move force is applied which needs energy aka work done is the energy transferred they are he same thing
push something along a hard surface your doing work against friction also the kinetic energy store due to friction because overall temperature increases
when force move an object through a distance energy is transferred and work id done on an object
work done = force X ditance
