Yr 9 Refugee camp
Best thing was...
I really enjoyed going over the border because it was really funny watching the teachers telling people off for having the wrong information because of there accents they put on. I also loved it because we got to see how hard it was for refugees to make it across the border.
My favourite activity was doing the games with our group and thinking of good strategy to complete the challenge. - Leah

I really enjoyed the camp as a whole, but my favourite was, when the movie was on and we were all talking and having fun as a group.

What I learned...
I learnt that on there life boats when crossing water are packed with loads of people which would be very cramped and easy for the life boat to flip over. They would also get quite sick because of being on sea and with so many people there would be lots of people vomiting.
I learned that refugees had to try very hard to survive the tough circumstances and we have it very lucky. They would travel for days , months , weeks just to be rejected. We built shelters with limited resources. Adi came and spoke to us about his migration story to NZ. - Leah
when all you eat for dinner is rice and bread at 6 by midnight you are starving and refugees that go through it every day of your lief you could starve to death, e are very fortunate,
I learnt that refugees are people that were forced to flee their country because of natural disaster or war and that a migrant can choose if they want to leave they don't have to. - Kimberley
I learnt that refugees have a harder life than I thought. I learnt that they still want to go back to their country once war is over.
Challenges I overcome...
I thought it was going to be very challenging to cook dinner because it was getting dark fast and the water was taking a while to boil. Luckily we got our torches out so we could finish making the rice.
I overcome the challenge of sleeping on the hard floor as I was asleep by 12 AM and I thought I wouldn't be able to sleep , and stay up all night. - Leah
I overcame the worry of lighting a match for our hobo stove,
i finally did it!
i overcame the challenge of sleeping on almost the ground, because at 1:30 I fell asleep.
I overcame the challenge of sleeping on the hard, cold floor. It was hard at first but I finally got to sleep ay 1.30am.

Activities we did...
We all tried to fit in a tight space to see what it was like to be in a life boat. We also went over the border illegally and legally.
We crossed borders legally and illegally to realise how hard it was to make it to a new country. We hiked around the school with all our gear. We cooked on hobo cookers as refugees did not have a kitchen.- Leah
When we had to put blind folds on and shuffle ourselves up and try find our team. It was really noisy and I couldn't really hear my team. - Kimberley

Being a refugee would be challenging and a struggle for me , the resources are very limited so you would have the same routine everyday if not travelling. - Leah
