Never reverse from a side road onto a main road. You can reverse the other way around (onto a side road).
You can undo your seatbelt while reversing if it helps you get a better view. You must refasten your seatbelt once you've finished the manoeuvre.
Where there is no speed limit shown, the national speed limit for cars and motorcycles is:
60 mph (96 km/h)
70 mph (112 km/h)
For vehicles towing a trailer of caravan the national speed limit is 50 mph (80 km/h) on a single carriageway road.
60 mph (96 km/h) on a dual carriageway or motorway.
Where there are street lights, there's normally a 30 mph (48 km/h) speed limit for all vehicles unless signs show otherwise.
On a dual-carriageway the right-hand lane is only for turning right or overtaking. The same rule applies to three-lane dual carriageways.
If you're on a level-crossing when the warning lights come on or a bell rings the keep going and clear the crossing.
When parking at night you have to leave your parking lights on if the speed limit on that road is over 30 mph (48 km/h).
Don't park opposite or within 10 meters (32 feet) of a junction - in Norther Ireland, within 15 meters or 48 feet of a junction, unless there's an authorised place.
It is illegal to smoke in a private enclosed vehicle if one or more of the occupants is under 18 - the rules don't apply to E-cigarettes.
Clearways are in place so that traffic can flow without the obstruction of parked vehicles. You mustn't stop when a clearway is in force.
Red rear reflectors are useful when parked at night. They'll only show when you're parked in the same direction as the traffic flow.
-
Certain sections of urban road may be designated Urban Clearway, which is a little-used designation, but one which prevents vehicles being stopped during the peak hours
Normally you should park in the same direction as the traffic flow. You should also only normally only park on the left. On a one-way street you may also park on the right-hand side.
-
You mustn't park or stop on a road marked with double white lines (even if one of the lines is broken) except to pick up or set down passengers.
