Powerful independent voice for all those who use health and social care services in NI, the PCC provides advice and information to the public as well as helping people to make a complaint if they are dissatisfied with services they have received
"Your voice in health and social care"
Formed under legislation as part of the reform of health and social care in NI, replacing health and social care councils
PCC exists to:
Listen and Act on peoples views
Encourage people to get involved
Help people make a complaint
Promote advice and information
Objective
To provide a powerful, independent voice for patients, clients, carers and communities on health and social care issues through the exercise of functions
To represent the interests of the public by engaging with the public to obtain their views on services and engaging with health and social care organisations to ensure that the needs and expectations of the public are addressed in the planning, commissioning and delivery of health and social care services
To promote the involvement of patients, clients, carers and the public in the design, planning and commissioning of health and social care services
To provide assistance to individuals making or intending to make a complaint relating to health and social care
To promote the provision of advice and information to the public by HSC about the design, commissioning and delivery of health and social care services
Structure
Board of management
Setting the strategic direction for PCC
Monitoring performance of PCC
Ensuring highest standards of corporate governance and personal behaviour
Ensuring proper financial stewardship
Giving account to local communities
Chief Executive
Accountable to the board of the council for the effective management of the organisation and ensuring it meets the objectives of the minister
Accounting officer for the council and in that capacity is directly responsible to the permanent secretary of the DHSSPSNI for accounting public funds
Ultimately answerable to the minister for health and social care
Head of operations
Ensure the development of the PCC's ability to ensure patient and client views are represented at regional level
