What happened
There were two sides to the war the parliamentarians and the royalists, also known as the round heads and cavaliers
The first battle was on the 23rd October 1642 and this was called the battle of Edgehill and it was a draw between the two sides
The second was on the 20th September 1643 and this was the battle of Newbury and this was a draw as well
The third was on the 2nd July 1644 and this was called the battle of Marston Moor and it ended in a win to parliament
Then Oliver Cromwell made an army called the new model army who were under strict rules and were professionally trained to take out Charles and his army
Charles surrendered to the Scots who handed him over to Parliament, in return for money

The king raised taxes and added ship tax which was originally added for people who lived by the coast but now it was for everyone

Parliament believed they had the right to some of the power of the throne but Charles thought differently
