The school is an agent of socialization.
Developing skills, knowledge, interest, and attitudes characterize them as individuals and shape their abilities to perform adult roles.
Parental options regarding sending kids to school are: magnet schools, school vouchers, charter schools, and home-based schools.
A chronosystem influence on the school, technology, involves the use of computers.
The smaller the school, the more connected students feel (below 600 students).
Harsh discipline makes students feel less connected, though safer.
Mitigation prevention addresses what schools and districts can do to reduce or eliminate risk of life and property.
Preparedness focuses on the process of planning for the worst-case scenario.
Response is devoted to the steps to take during a crisis.
Recovery deals with how to restore the learning and teaching environment after a crisis.
Inclusion is the educational philosophy that all children are entitled to participate fully in their school and community.

There are bad people in the world. But there are many more good people.
It's been a debate throughout history whether to take out "In God we Trust" in the Constitution. I remember more recently when this happened and I was hurt. I know that many people in this country don't believe in God. However, our founding fathers placed that in there for a reason and we shouldn't change what they have placed.
What Makes a Bully?
Bullying has progressed in today's world, especially with the growing technology.
I was bullied a lot growing up. Both in school and from family members. It was an awful experience. But because of my faith, I was able to come out stronger.
It pains me to know that many children go through this and they feel like there's no hope. Eventually, they do things that are irreversible. It hurts that they aren't getting the help that they need.
Cyber-bullying
It's become easier in today's world to bully people because of technology. There are a lot of problems with this.
I have seen this first hand. I have experienced this. It is painful. I think that it's easier to bully online because you are hiding behind a screen.
I often think about the movie, "Cyberbully." That is a powerful movie that shows how you can hurt someone by saying stuff on the internet. What's worse is that is was her best friend. You have to be so careful with who you are hanging out with and who you talk to on the internet.
Weighter Matters
Exaltation is a family matter.
The purpose of mortal families is to bring children into the world, to teach them what is right, and to prepare all family members for exaltation in eternal family relationships.
The war to secure agency is won. It was won before we came to this earth.
Because choice is a method, choices can be exercised either way on any matter, and our choices can serve any goal.
Choice is a method, not the ultimate goal. We are accountable for our choices, and only righteous choices will move us toward our eternal goals.
We must stand up for the right choice.
Using arguments of “choice” to try to justify altering the consequences of choice is a classic case of omitting what the Savior called “the weightier matters of the law.”
Ducks are Different
“Ducks are different”—or in other words, “Each of us is unique; be tolerant. People are different, but that’s not necessarily bad.”
Tolerance so often does lead to love.
When others differ from us in these essential matters, we must learn to see with eyes that separate people from their traditions or sins. Good people can have mistaken beliefs.
Satan must laugh when we push each other down—by faultfinding criticism, name-calling, and labeling—when part of our purpose in mortality is to learn to lift each other up.
“The nearer we get to our Heavenly Father, the more we are disposed to look with compassion on perishing souls; we feel that we want to take them upon our shoulders, and cast their sins behind our backs.”
"If we can learn patience, allowing all men the privilege of seeing truth at their own pace, we will have moved measurably toward the compassion and love of the Savior, who saw no enemies among his crucifiers. His example stands for all time to teach us the tender path from tolerance to compassion and perfect love. With every provocation to rage against his adversaries, he said rather, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me” (John 12:32; italics added), thus offering himself on our behalf, that we might have room to repent."
"Every Convert is Precious"
“I plead with you … ; I ask of you, each of you, to become a part of this great effort. Every convert is precious. Every convert is a son or daughter of God. Every convert is a great and serious responsibility.”
The tendency is to say, ‘They don’t know enough.’ Well, take a chance on them. Think of what a chance the Lord has taken on you. Give them something to do, be it ever so small, something that’s specific and by which they will grow. … You will not develop people in this Church unless you give them responsibility.”
"I invite every member to reach out in friendship and love for those who come into the Church as converts.”
