Working toward s a sustainable future
the six R's
reduce
I will reduce the amount of materials that can't be recycled reducing the amount of land fill and use renewable power sources and transport that has lower Co2 emissions.
rethink
I will rethink designs to be more energy efficient and to use renewable materials and use plant and trees to be carbon neutral. And use ideas like tessellation and maximize capacity.
re-use
I will be reusing old materials reduces the carbon foot print as it means I don't need to extract raw material from the ground and it also reduces the amount of stuff going in to landfill.
refuse
I will refuse woods that aren't FSC stamped and will refuse materials that can't be recycled e.g thermosetting plastics.
recycle
By recycling I can use old product to make something new without having to extract the raw material instead you can just melt down old recyclable items.
repair
I will make designs easy to repair and take apart to help the owner repair and have ease of access into the product to minimize the amount of products ending up in land fill.
Tessellation is when you can maximize capacity will minimum use of material and space.
materials
acrylic
It is easy to recycled as it is a thermoplastic. It is strong enough to be used as a window in an architectural model. Acrylic comes in many colors and is self finished.
mdf
medium density fiber board , made from saw dust and wood particals and mixed with formaldehyde (this glue causes cancer) there for it is important that if I use this I where a mask. I will use MDF for wall and roofs in a model as it is strong.
grey board
Grey board is made from 100% recycled paper it is good to use for Eco-friendly product as it has a low carbon footprint. It also doesn't contain bleach so it doesn't harm the environment.
pla (polylactic acid) bio plastic
Used in 3d printers and is a bio plastic it is also biodegradable. thermoplastic. I could use this for small object like furniture.
birch or walnut veneer
Thin wood veneer to use for slats and wooden surfaces like tables.
copier paper
80 microns think easy to use and print on.
BRIEF
An Eco friendly block of flats for the center of the city which is made from carbon absorbing materials and has many plants all over it to absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen.
I am going to design an Eco friendly home that is self sustainable , energy efficient , carbon neutral and Eco-friendly.
