Centroids and Center of Gravity
Formulas
GG´=(w)(d)\W+w
KG=KG+GG
d=kg-KG
d=KG-kgo
KG Final = KG - GG'
KG Final = KG + GG'
GG' = (w)(d)/W
Types of Movement
Suspended Weight
When a weight is suspended its center of gravity ts suppose to be at the point of suspenssion.
Loading effect
When the weight is added, the center of gravity will move directly towards the center of gravity of the weight added.
Transfer effect
Horizontal Transfer
The center of gravity moves to the direction the weight goes, STBD or PRT.
Vertical Transfer
The center of gravity moves where the cargo goes.
If the cargo goes upwards its positive.
If the cargo goes downwards its negative.
Unloading effect
When the weight is withdrawn, the center of gravity of the weight will move opposite to the centerof the gravity of the weight withdrawn.
Definition
The centroid is the mean position of the mass in an object. Then there's the center of gravity, which is the point where gravity appears to act.
Is Used For
Calculate and evalute the position of the ship´s centers of gravity with respect to the keel
