Gases (atmosphere (oxygen is 21%, nitrogen makes up 79%, argon <1%, CO2…
Gases
-
gas tests
hydrogen- lit splint in test tube, squeaky pop
-
CO2, lime water goes cloudy
-
chlorine, litmus is bleached white
testing for volume of O2
Copper in a glass tube with syringes on either end, pulling and pushing air through the copper, starts off with 100cm cubes of air and then by the end of the experiment it should be lower and that is the volume of O2 in the atmosphere
Iron wool at the top of an inverted measuring cylinder with the end blocked by water in a water bath, as the oxygen is depleted in the measuring cylinder, the water level will rise, by using the measurements on the side of the cylinder you can calculate the volume of O2
Phosphorus can be placed on a 'boat' floating in a water bath with a bell jar over the top of it. this works with the same principle of the iron experiment.

examples include: magnesium burning bright white to a white ash and sulphur burning with a blue flame.
effects on the environment- CO2 contributes to the greenhouse effect, CO affects blood oxygen capacity, C or soot causes smog with particulates, SO2 causes acid rain and NOx also causes acid rain and is toxic
Incomplete
More products- CO2, CO, C, water
