The selection for the roles in an Ava Ceremony is an honour and each person must perform their role according to protocol
Tufa'ava ( Ava distributor )
Usually an Orator chief, who calls out names one by one and the order of those to be served with the ava beverage. Also called 'sufi ava' pule'ava or 'folafola'ava.
Sui'ava - Agai'ava
Sui Ava seated on the right beside the Ava mixer. Also called 'agai ava'
Aumaga ( Ava Maker )
Seated center rear of the circle. Comperising mixer ( male or Female ) seated behind the Tanoa bowl with several assistants beside them also called ' augai '( assistant, 'autausi' caretaker
Taupou
In her role as a Taupou she is the representative of the Matai/ high Chief family in all dances, entertainments, receptions and social functions, one of the most important Siva Samoa is one that is gracefully dances and performed by a Taupou. Siva Samoa represents the untouched originality of Samoa culture.
Palu'ava ( Ava Mixer )
Ava mixer ( male or female ) Seated in a central role with the wooden Tanoa bowl in front of them.
