Pop art is a movement that took place in the U.K and the U.S in the mid late 1950s. The movement became a real art because of artists like Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol.

Pop art oftentimes were used in advertising by using logo figures, product labels used by the Pop artists.

He was inspired by newspapers, and magazines, and his concept was to use those to put it into one piece of art work.

Richard Hamilton was born in February 24th of 1922 in London, England, and past away in September 13th of 2012 at the same city he was born in. He was a painter, and also called as “The father of Pop Art”, because he was one of the best pop artist at the time.

He influenced today’s art by using magazines, newspapers, and movie stars. It helped a lot with the popular culture like today’s magazines, movie sand even music.

He was the founder of "Independent Group" at the "Institute of Contemporary Arts" in London, together with Eduardo Paolozzi, Lawrence Alloway and others more.

Andy Warhol was born in August 6th of 1928 in Pennsylvania, USA. He died in February 22nd of 1987 in NYK, USA.

He used to attend evening art classes, and after that he applied for Royal Academy School. After studying in Royal Academy School for 2 years, he started working as a industrial designer.

•Its medium was painting.

•It took 4 canvases and 40 inches for each painting of Shot Marilyns.

•Red, orange, light blue, sage blue and
turquoise was the colors of the back ground
of the painting.

•The size of the painting was 36x36 inches.

In August of 1962, Marilyn Monroe committed a suicide and Warhol used this for his screen printing. The photo was taken by Gene Korman in 1953. He took the image into his paintings, so that way you get the picture, but a little bit different each time because of the colors.

When he was a teenager, he graduated from Schenley High school, and he also won the Scholastic Art and Writing Award.

In his life, he was crazy about art. He inspired artists from his time and still inspiring today’s artists by his stylistic choices. He was the first person to use screen printing to create an art as a technique for him.

He used modern methods like silk screen printing to produce portraits of the celebrities like Merilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.

“The idea for a group of works based on Leonardo’s Renaissance masterpiece was proposed to Warhol in 1984 by Milan-based gallerist Alexander Iolas. Warhol leapt at the idea of putting his own stamp on one of the best-known images in the world, and produced an exhaustive series of variations — some freehand, some showing outlines, some, as in this example, using a photostat of the oil painting as the source image for a silkscreen”.

“Everything in the photograph converged on a girl in a ‘new look’ coat who stared out slightly to right of camera. A very wide-angle lens must have been used because the perspective seemed distorted; but the disquiet of the scene was due to two other factors. It was a film set, not a real room, so wall surfaces were not explicitly conjoined; and the lighting came from several different sources”.

Conclusion

In my conclusion, I think Pop Art is a really cool way of art to express your feelings freely by putting pictures or magazines into one piece of artwork. I enjoyed doing the Pop Art essay, because it was really excited to learn new and interesting things.
