UCSI Special Education Referral Process

Observation (It usually takes 3-4 months): School counselor
gets the permission
from leadship team before observation.

Observation includes:

Make it clear we support but not label kids.
The school counselor suggests solution.
Temporary
in-school train plan.
Parents are suggested to get a diagnosis from assessment center.
Certificate of diagnosis
is the main requirement of a formal admission.

School counselor gets feedback from teachers to see if IEP helps the students progress in varying aspects enough.
If not, the school counselor will go to the assessment center to get a readjusted or reformulated IEP from the diagnostician.
The school counselor gets IEP ( Individual Education Program) from the diagnostician and discuss IEP with homeroom teacher and subject teachers.The application of IEP includes intervention and therapy.

School leadership, coordinators, counselor and parents analyze the result from assessment center and decide if the school has appropriate equipment, facility and trained staff to support the student as well as if the student is eligible for school special needs service.
