AQUI Lei Aurea, abolished Slavery in 1888 (the last in the western world to abolish it) which was used in multiple tasks, left land-owners pissed because there was no indentation paid to them (They bought the slaves and with the law, basically threw money away) Plus they needed to search for more workers
Immigration numbers started to increase, immigrants divided into superior and inferior according to their skin color.
With the arrival of Europeans and Asian immigrants (90% European) the country ended up "whitening" , but still blacks are equivalent to nearly 50% of Brazil's population
Portugal was in the search for gold, didn't find it at first but then encounter many mines towards the center of the country in which they extracted tons of gold from for a great period of time.

Colonial Economy
Relied on Sugar at first, being the greatest sugar exporter in the world, later on exported ores all over the world (diamonds, silver, gold). Coffee exportations also made part of the colonial economy.
