CHOLESTEROL

Total Cholesterol
Total cholesterol is the measurement of the total cholesterol amount in the blood. Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance made in liver from the fats and oils we eat.
It plays an important role in the production of hormones, bile, and is incorporated into the cell wall of all cells.
The body only requires a small amount of cholesterol to meet these needs, and when too much is present health problems such as heart disease may develop.
Cholesterol travels through the blood attached to special proteins called lipoproteins. These lipoproteins are classified as high density and low density.

LDL Cholesterol

When too much LDL cholesterol circulates in the blood, it can slowly build up in the inner walls of the arteries that lead to the heart and brain.
This excessive build up can eventually form a thick, hard deposit known as plaque. This increases the chance of a clot forming in the artery, which may cause a heart attack or stroke.

Triglycerides
Are the main source of fat we eat, they are an important source of energy but excess triglycerides can increase the likelihood of heart attack or stroke.
