NASA is opening the ISS up to private astronauts and commercial business
NASA is
opening the ISS
for compagnies
What are the goals of a compagny to go in the ISS
Make money
Do some experiments (micro gravity etc)
And their
private
astronauts
At a maximum of 30 days
Before campagnies were allows to send only
educationnal or technological
project
Now they can do marketing or advertising in ISS
NASA is commercializing the station
Let's have a bit of
numbers
Companies are allowed to send 185KG of cargo and use 90 hours of crew time.
There will be 2 private astronaut launches per year, starting in 2020. Arround 12 astronauts per year
In your opinion
, how muwh it costs t
o live in the ISS during one day ?
-> $35,000
Add the fact that companies
will also have to pay all the launch costs and handle astronaut training
Guess what, how much the total price is ? It is about $10 million.
Critique
SO no the ISS is not going to become a
cash machine
. Question prix
In fact, all of that is only to replace government funding by 2021
And yes, according to the USA,
the ISS contract is over
, so NASA must replace these funds.
WHen I first read the article,
I imagined Apple sending an iPhone to the ISS
, all for an ad.
In your opinion, what would be the use of the ISS for a company?
