AC MOTOR
-
Main parts
• The rotor: is located inside the stator and is mounted on the AC motor's shaft. The objective is to make the rotor rotate which in turn will rotate the motor shaft. This rotation will occur because of the magnetic phenomenon that unlike magnetic poles attract each other [3].
• The stator: is in the stationary electrical component. It consists of a group of individual electro-magnets arranged in such a way they form a hollow cylinder, with one pole of each magnet facing toward the center of the group [3].
What is an ac motor?
The AC motor converts the alternating current into mechanical power by using an electromagnetic induction phenomenon is called an AC motor [2].
Types of AC motor
• Synchronous Motor: The motor that converts the AC electrical power into mechanical power and is operated only at the synchronous speed is known as a synchronous motor [1].
• Induction motor: In an induction machine the armature winding serve as both the armature winding and field winding. When the stator windings are connected to an AC supply flux is produced in the air gap [1].
• Mono-phase / single phase motor: A single-phase motor is an electrically-powered rotary machine that can turn electric energy into mechanical energy. In most cases are small motors and with a power up to 10HP with connections of up to 400VAC [4].
• Three-phasic / poli-phasic motor: A three-phase motor is an electric machine that transforms electric power into mechanical energy by means of electromagnetic interactions. They are driven by three alternating currents of the same frequency. They have a power of up to 300KW and speeds ranging between 900 and 3600 RPM [4].
