AC motors classification.
INDUCTION MOTORS
THREE PHASE
The three-phase AC induction motor is a rotating electric machine that is designed to operate on three phase supply. This 3 phase motor is also called as an asynchronous motor. The principle of operation of this motor is based on the production of rotating magnetic field [2].
SINGLE PHASE
Single-phase induction motors are not self-starting without an auxiliary stator winding driven by an out of phase current of near 90°. Once started the auxiliary winding is optional.
The auxiliary winding of a permanent-split capacitor motor has a capacitor in series with it during starting and running [1].
DEFINITION
An induction motor or asynchronous motor is an AC electric motor in which the electric current in the rotor needed to produce torque is obtained by electromagnetic induction from the magnetic field of the stator winding. An induction motor can therefore be made without electrical connections to the rotor [5].

SINCHRONOUS MOTORS
DEFINITION
A synchronous motor is one in which the rotor normally rotates at the same speed as the revolving field in the machine. The stator is similar to that of an induction machine consisting of a cylindrical iron frame with windings, usually three-phase, located in slots around the inner periphery. The difference is in the rotor, which normally contains an insulated winding connected through slip rings or other means to a source of direct current [6].
ELECTRICAL CARACTERISTICS
VOLTAGE
Also called electrical voltage or potential difference, It is the work necessary to shift a positive charge [4].
E = Voltage 220/monophasic, 220-380/threephasic.
VA = Potential of point A
VB = Potential of point B
POWER
It is the speed with which a job is performed [4].
1 kW = 1000 W 1
HP = 747 W = 0.746 kW
1 kW = 1.34 HP
CURRENT
The electric current [I] is the speed of the charge flow [Q] that passes through a given point [P] in an electric conductor at a given time [t] [4].
Rated current : 50hz
Vacuum current
Starting current
Blocked rotor current
Revolutions per minute (R.P.M.) or angular speed.

MECHANICAL CARACTERISTICS
ROTOR
It consists of a stack of magnetic sheets on them the rotor winding is wound, which constitutes the moving part of the motor and turns out to be the motor shaft exit [3].
STATOR
It consists of a stack of magnetic sheets and on them the stator winding, wich is a fixed part and attached to the housing [3].
HOUSING
Box that wraps the electrical parts of the engine, it is the external part [3].
APPLICATIONS
INDUCTOR MOTOR
In water pumps, kitchen appliances, fans and air conditioners, automobiles and common industrial machinery like boiler pumps and compressors [7].
SINCHRONOUS MOTOR
In clocks, timers, electromechanical robots, metering pumps, speed controllers and other industrial processes [7].
