Lack of Participation
Tier 1
Tier 2
Tier 3
Behavior Contract - With giving students behavior contact, students Increases student motivation and effort on participation. Also teachers can add parents' signature blank then teacher-student-parents all can work on it altogether.
Behavior Meeting - when students are over kindergarten, behavior meeting is good to use along with behavior contract. Teacher and students have a meeting and decide what area to improve for students. Then put those areas into behavior contract. In this way students feel more engaged and motivated to behavior improvement.
Help students to fit in - students with lack of participate tend to do things alone. Invite them when the other children are playing in order to socialize.
Give students common 'language' - sometimes preschooler acts shy and not participated for a language barrier. If possible, use children's mother language could make a change.
Assign a buddy who is more actively participate. When peers are inviting to do something together, young kids take activities as a play.
Praise when good attitude and involvement occur- For young children, praise works really quite well.
Preschool is a play-based learning. So the more they explore different centers the more they learn. Sometimes kids stick one thing they like and spend a lot of times there. I would call them in different areas and help them explore new things
Hyperactivity
Tier 1
Use timer-Using timer is a fun and good way to keep the hyper student track of time. Especially, given tasks take a long time, teachers break the steps and help students accomplish the each steps in order to complete the big task.
Tier 2
Tier 3
Individual &Visual schedules- Provides more specific routine, agenda, and instructions for a student’s daily procedures in class, between classes, and during unstructured times
Sensory tools-Some kids’ behaviors are due primarily to sensory issues, therefore, simple sensory interventions can greatly alleviate these behavioral barriers. Giving them weighted object on students' lap or Headphones to block out sound for quiet will be great.
Daily Behavior Form- This method would work great from K or above grade band. Children have a change to reflect their own behavior on daily basis which is short so it will be great way to help hyper students.
The Praise Game - Unlike Daily Behavior Form, praise game would work under K grade band. Since praise comes a team work which is also great way to teach students a working together.
Individual work place - most times hyper students distracts others in class. In order to avoid distracting others and have hyper students more focused, giving individual work place would be good.
Non-verbal Cues- Giving too much instructions might make students have low-self esteem. To avoid publishing instructions, using non-verbal can be more effective to keep hyper students engaged.
