Function: Acts as a minor steroid by assisting the growth of muscles and bones in both males and females

Function: stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine which stimulates the metabolism of almost every tissue in the body.

Function: stimulates the production of testosterone from Leydig cells in the testes.

Oestrogen

Function: Stimulates the ovaries to produce oestradiol. Two weeks into a woman's cycle, a rush in luteinizing hormone causes the ovaries to release an egg during ovulation.
