Arriving Late to Class
Step 2: If this happens for a second time, comply with the schools attendance policy. My school requires that students get a tardy slip and then get an hour of detention and then return to class.
Step 3: If the behavior continues, first I follow school policy, sending the student to get a tardy slip. Then I have a meeting with the student, asking why the behavior is continuing. Hopefully this is the solution.
Step 1: Give the student a verbal warning. While being late should not be tolerated, life does happen. So if this is a first time occurrence, I let it go.
Step 4: If the student is tardy again, then I send them to the deans office. After class I have a meeting with the dean and counselors to determine why the behavior is continuing.
Restless Students
Step 2: If the behavior continues, offer the student another opportunity to settle down or go stand in the back of the room. Tell the student if they cannot settle down then they will be sent to the deans office.
Step 3: If the behavior continues after the warning, then the student will be sent to the counselor. Then have a meeting with the counselor about the continued behavior.
Step 1: Determine why the student is restless. Ask the student why they can't sit still. Depending on the reason, offer the student the opportunity to take a quick walk or go stand in the back of the room. If the student needs to use the restroom, allow them to use the restroom.
