Gettysburg - The battle of Gettysburg is perhaps the most well known battle of the Civil War. It took place in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on July 1st, 1863. The Union was being led by Joseph Hooker, then after he was killed, George Meade. The Confederates were led by Robert E. Lee. This was the bloodiest battle of the war, with 51,112 total causalities, 23,049 Union, and 28,063 Confederate. The battle ended with Union victory and the Union stopping the Confederate advance, a big turning point in the war.
