What is needed in a pregnant womens diet?
Need a balanced diet
Slightly more calories needed for last trimester (last 3 months). Do not need to "eat for two"
What is needed??
More protein - growth of the baby
More fibre - can get constipated
Iron needed - can get anaemic
Folic acid tablet taken whilst trying to get pregnant and for early pregnancy - correct development of brain/ nervous system.
Foods to avoid
Soft cheeses - listeria food poisoning
Raw egg salmonella food poisoning
Pate
Liver
Breast feeding
Essential mother has balanced diet
All nutrient are transferred to the baby
Elderly people
Body may have more fat, less muscle (less calories needed)
Can often afford less
Can lose appetite
Heath may deteriorate
May have false teeth or other hindrances

Local day centres provide cooking clubs
