Also an absurd pastiche of our absorption of material culture, and how much they signify our identity - parody of the aristocracy, 'here living teapots stand, one arm held out' personification of the ruins of decorative finery - the obsession of vanity and the consequences of such a concern with trite rituals and exotic commodities, women are depicted as the ones who are most affected by these goods, they are the ones who mainly perpetuate capitalist culture, separate from high art and literature, they are the mediums of popular culture.
