Hedonism
Is a thought in philosophy which puts forward the idea that pleasure is the highest good and we should act in a way that maximises our pleasure and minimises our pain.
Epicurus discovered three mistakes when looking for happiness. 1. We think it is about money. 2.We think it is a bout romantic relationships. 3. We think it is about luxury.
Epicurus believed we need more time with people we get along with more and we should also improve the world around us by having meaningful work rather than making ourselves rich wealthy stressed and unhappy.
Utilitarianism is a theory in philosophy about right and wrong actions. It says that the morally best action is the one that makes the most overall happiness or "utility" (usefulness).
This is not limited happiness caused by a single action but also includes the happiness of all people involved and all future consequences. It is based on the idea of democracy.
The theory was made popular in the 18th century and the 19th century British philosophers like Jeramy Bentham and John Stuart Mill.
