Most severe health issues,
due to financial problems= lack of health services.
Most common= infections + mental illness
Education
lack of education= most likely to stay in poverty,
problems with finances= unable to access education.
NOTE: volunteer support services provide learning skills= boosting self-esteem and emotional wellbeing
Employment
Unable to gain a job due to: low self-esteem, lack of social skills, health issues, unable to present appropriately, lack of education or basic work skills. Inability to stay employed= staying homeless
Security
and Safety
Most vulnerable = limited physical security,
Streets + shelters = little protection.
Nowhere to keep their valuables and personal items.
Sense of Identity
Decrease in satisfying this need due to lack of work, family and social life.
Loss of self-worth= negative interactions with community.

Types of services
Health Care
Hospitals + community health services,
Community agencies provide health care,
Mental health clinics are provided by NSW Health
Counselling
Counselling, support and detoxification services.
NOTE: They may find it difficult due to decrease of self-worth
Accommodation
Department of housing = short term housing,
Crisis Accommodation Program= for those in crisis,
Community agencies + federal services=advice+ accommodation
Education
Many services and support organisations offer specific training schools for homeless people within refuges and community centres.

Mission Australia- 'strive to solve homelessness and provide employment solutions'.
Support agencies provide basic training programs for Homeless people
Financial
Lack of address= unable to gain government benefits. 'Department of Human Service'= provide crisis payments, cetrepay, rent assistance and rent deduction scheme.
Legal Aid
"Homeless Legal aid services' offer free advice.
'Homeless Outreach Legal service' + 'Homeless Person's Legal services = free legal service

Cultural Barriers = fearful of government agencies + culture groups.
Services can be culturally inappropriate.
Level of Education
Many have poor literacy and numeracy skills.
Thus having a lack of entitlement and need for education.
First Language Spoken
Language barrier affecting ability to access resources and information (confidence to seek help is reduced).
Gender
More support for women, due to need of protection against domestic violence.
But there is serves for both genders.
Socioeconomic Status
Reduced self-worth and low social status = shy from social contact.
Not having a form of identification = seeking government support a problem.
Age
Homeless children may not know that services exist for them.
Elder homeless may feel fear of being society's failure.

Opening Hour
Vulnerability at night= sleeping during the day, which is usually during business hours.
Plus the crowds + noise = threatened or anxious.
Confidentiality
low sense of self, due to feeling a burden on society= less likely to talk about their situation.
Fear of fast actions going on record.
Empathy+ patience + professionalism is needed = the individual feeling safe

Location
Depending on location = practical or impossible (due to limited transport)
Cramped offices= restricted access (due to carrying everything on them)
Staffing
Staff may be unsympathetic or poorly trained = barriers
one bad experience = not pursuing other services in future
Resources
Time
Due to irregular sleep patterns (sleeping in the day) = not fitting in with business hours.
Time management= poor due to lack of motivation.
BUT do not have issues with schedules and deadlines, due to no job
Money
Lack of employment + no bank account + fear of being robbed =no money
inability to pay= anxiety and reduce in self-esteem =isolation
Energy
Lack of food= lack of energy.
Reduced energy + physical stamina = less likely to walk for distances to services.
More prone to illness = even less energy.
Knowledge
low level of education = difficulty in understanding information.
Thus services have been made to help educate= more access
