By the early 1800's, settlers from the United States had started living on the Texas plains.They strartedranches with wild cattles they found on the plains.

railroads make it posible for crops to be sent back to the East and for tools to be sent back to the east and for tools to be sent to the west

Many of the cowboys were Mexicans. They stayed in Texas after Texas became independent from México. About a quarter of the cowboys were African Americans. Some had come to the West after the Civil War. Others had been slaves on Texas ranches

Now that raildroads were there,people were able to settel there and starts farms.

There were no railroads in Texas, so the cattle had to be moved all the way to Kansas. The trail drive, or trip to the railroad, usually took about two or three months. Along the way, the cattle grazed freely on the open plains. By the end of the drive , the fattend cattle were ready for market

Why did people to the Great plains most of them wanted to have farms of the own . tjhe raidroad companies wanted more business

American Indians lived in Great Plains , they hunted buffalos for their meat , use skin and with bones they made tools

The goverment of the U S A made the American Indians move away to reservations. The lands were in places that settlers did not wan´t to have

New machines wereneeded to farm on the Great Plain. The thick sod was too tough and ordinary for sticky pillowsA man named John Deere made a new kind of pillow with a very sharp steel blade. He also made a plow that farmers could ride on history

These machines made it possible for one person to do much work than before

But by early 1900s, farming had become a big business
