Type of rocks

Metamorphic Rocks: They are produced from all types ofpre-existing rocks, which are transformed by being subjected to high heat, high pressure or a combination of both factors .Metamorphic rocks are classified as foliated or non-foliated.

Igneous Rocks:are formed by the cooling and solidification of magma or lava. They make up 80% of the Earth's surface in both the continental and the ocean crusts. Based on how and where the magma solidifies, it is possible to identify three types of magmatic rocks: intrusive or plutonic, subvolcanic and volcanic.

Intrusive Rocks:are formed by the slow cooling of magma under the Earth's surface.Like is the granite or syenite

Subvolcanic Rocks:are formed when magma hardens close to the surface in cracks in the Earth's crust after a period of slow cooling deep inside the Earth.Like Pegmatite

Volcanic Rocks:Volcanic rocks are formed when magma reaches the Earth's surface without cooling. Outside, the magma cools and hardens rapidly.Like Basalt,Gabbro and Pumite

Sedimentary Rocks: are formed by the settling accumulation and consolidation of sediments or by the precipitation of minerals from a solution. They are classified in clastic, chemical or biochemical.

Clastic Rocks: They are formed from fragments of other rocks.LIke conglomerate

Chemical Rocks : they are formed by chemical processes.Depending on their composition, they are classified as carbonates or evaporites.Like limestone

Biochemical Rocks :Biochemical sedimentary rocks form from the gradual accumulation of the remains of living things, Like coralline

Foliated Metamorphic Rocks: appear banded or layered..This parallel arragement of new mineral in sheets or layers is called foliation. Some examples are slate,or,gneiss

NOn -Foliated Metamorphic Rocks: They usually contain just one mineral. They are uniform in texture.Like marble
