Influences on UK Climate
Global Atmospheric Circulation; Weather we get depends on position of Polar jet stream and its influence on air masses. Weather systems generally go West-to-East over the UK
Air Pressure In Low pressure systems, air cools and cannot stay as a gas; it condenses to form Rain or Snow
High Pressure causes sinking air, increasing its ability to hold water vapour. High pressure is "stable", and causes clear skies. This makes it warmer in summer but colder in winter.
Latitude The North is colder than the South because of the latitude. The South is closer to the equator so gets more heat from the suns rays
Altitude The loss of temperature is 9.8 degrees for every 1000m under clear skies. This means highland regions such as in Scotland and Wales are colder than lowland regions
Distance from the Sea Sea areas are less effective conductors of heat than land areas. Therefore, places closer to the coast will have a lower range of temperatures. In winter, it is milder by the coast, but in summer cooler

Drought leads to desertification, Malnutrition and Famine
Monsoons cause extreme flooding, and cyclones are hugely destructive, which require 27 degrees to form and wind speeds are at least 75mph

The different climate zones are as a result of the differences in heating effects of the sun between the equator and the Poles
