Blueback
chapter one
charecters
Abel is a 10 year old boy who lives with his mum. they go snorkelling/diving for Abalone in the sea near where they live

Groper
Is a big blue fish. He is described as old, smart and clever. He likes to interact with humans. Able names him Blueback.
Chapter 3
school
Abel wasn't really interested in school and got in trouble for daydreaming. He wants to study fish when he's older.
Relationships
Abel and Blueback become friends who are able to to play with each other. Abel's mum has a memorial peppermint tree where she goes to remember his dad. Many other things his dad knew can be seen in his mothers actions.
Chapter 5
Boarding School
Abel moved towns to go to school. He stayed in a hostel. He didn't enjoy going to school because back at they bay is where he felt safe and at home. He didn't enjoy having a huge crowd of people around him.
Dreaming
Abel dreamt that blueback took him to a deep crevice when he found the bodys of little girls. Mad Macka, his father and some sailors. Blueback draggeg him free in the dream and he woke up crying. this is the second time the author has mentioned death- what is he fore shadowing who is gonna die
chapter 7
ties to the ocean
Abel's life will be tied to the ocean in some way. Abel's mum never wants to leave, she wants to grow old and die there
- they watch Costello work up the ocean. 2. Abel can't stand it and decides to go out to Costello's boat. Mum goes too. 3. They climb onto Costello's boat to see slaughter 4. Abel throws out abalone. His mum goes down into the water. 5. Blueback comes out to the food and start playing. 6. Abel goes into the water with him but runs out of air. 7. Mum goes between Blueback and the divers and punched him in the face. 8. Blueback leaves and mum comes back to the surface out of breath.
chapter 9
Dora Jackson
During his high school years Abel begins to wonder is his mother would ever marry again. He doesn't think its right that his Mother should live out on the coast alone as she was still very beautiful and strong and that many men liked her and looked up to her. Abel would be quite upset if he went home and found a strange man that he didn't know in his house but his mother, Dora Jackson didn't ever re-marry.
Business
During the years many people had come to try and buy Longboat Bay. There were men in suits driving BMW's that wanted to build a resort in the bay as all the land around the Jackson's was national park. when the men saw Longboat Bay they saw money and lots of it too. They could put in a golf course, a hotel, a swimming pool and much more in the land. But every time they tried Dora Jackson would politely turn them down
chapter 12
Abel becomes a marine biologist and travels the world with Stella. On their adventures they go diving in all the seas that they come across. Inside Abel still felt like a little kid with a snorkel, wishing he knew how the sea worked but in reality he had become an expert over time.

Abel's mother sent him a letter while they were half way across the world saying that she was worried about the bay because a lot of people had come to the bay and that some days she had fifteen boats in the bay and that not all of them were welcome as they came spearing in groups. One month later an oil tank cracked, spread and then catch as bad weather drove the mess away. Abel had seen the disaster on TV and called his mother. she began to cry when she head his voice and told him that it was a warning.
chapter 13
Abel's mother has been struggling to look after the bay as Abel and Stella can't come home as much anymore because of work. The Orchard was getting away from her and her vegetables and hens are getting eaten by other animals. Her fingers were sore and stiff with arthritis.
dreaming
on the flight home Abel had a dream that his mother was dead. she floated in the sea the seaweed, Abel swam to reach. Gulls and terns whirled above her, screeching. He reached out and touched his mothers beautiful face and she sank beneath the surface into the deep dark sea. Blueback followed her down into the sea. Abel awoke crying and Stella made sure that he was ok.
chapter 14
when Abel an Stella returned, they had a small party on the verandah at long boat bay. Dora Jackson told stories of her adventures out at sea and all the wonders about the ocean she had had. She held the papers that declared the bay to be a sanctuary as they danced and sung until it was late.
little Dora
On one of the cold winter nights at longboat bay, Abel and Stella welcomed to the world a little baby girl named Dora was born. she was named after her grandmother.
Chapter two
Home
They are self sufficient growing their own vegetables, fruit and collecting their own meat. Able Jackson just lives with his mum. his dad is presumed dead with no body buried in the cemetery
At sea
They go to find Blueback but only find a crayfish. Blueback comes out of a crevice and steals the fish. he goes to eat it somewhere.
Chapter 4
Mad Macka
He was an abalone diver who came to the bay every year on his way to the coast. He knew about Blueback and gave Abel reassurance about not getting him. He died by a heart-attack. The author has put this death in- is he trying to tell us something important is going to happen to able.
chapter 6
summer holidays
Abel gets Mad Macka's boat and takes it out onto the ocean. They see a pod of whales. there is also a new abalone diver working their way along the coast and Abel worries about blueback
chapter 8
Abel watches a tiger shark die because it was caught up on a line set by Costello. Tim Winton is giving us a message about what we are doing to animals in our oceans.
chapter 10
There is something wrong with the ocean as pilchards are dying. Abel wants to figure out what is wrong.
chapter 11
Abel went to university to study the ocean. He didn't like being in the city. He took his girlfriend, Stella, home to meet his mum and they went out to see Blueback.
chapter 15
after a few years Dora Jackson could no longer walk along the beach. She was too frail to do many of the other activities she used to be able to do. On nice days Abel would carry her out to the verandah and tell stories about when Abel first learnt to swim as a very young child. Her hair had become pale white and weighed nothing. the next afternoon Dora Jackson died in her sleep, Abel made little cross behind the orchard in memory of him mother.
chapter 16
Abel never regretted staying at Longboat Bay, He had spent his childhood there and he was happy. Abel and Stella went to continue being scientists. they confined to watch, listen and read the sea but they never discovered the secret of the sea. He figured that his mother and father had once known the secret and that even mad Macka might had even had a few ideas of his own. On little Dora Jackson's third birthday, they all went diving in the sea. While they were out, a big blue figure came swimming towards them. The little girl chirped in her snorkel as the big fish came closer. she ran to her parents in panic but Blueback slipped in close letting her know she wasn't going to be harmed.
