Eric Lomax, a British soldier, was tortured by Japanese men, during the second world war. They poured gallons of water down his mouth and nose. After he was released, he attempted to track down the man: Mr. Nagase. He greeted Eric with a formal bow and then Eric asked in Japanese:’ Good Morning Mr. Nagase, how are you?’ This is reconciliation and forgiveness, as, despite the fact that Mr. Nagase tortured him, he restored friendly relations and avoided aggression.
