(Future consequences of apparent goods are unknown. Saving the lives of three, through taking the life of another, seemingly better. However, if one of those three became a mass murderer, was the original decision correct?)
Need for preventive approach. This can be unpleasant, even if to prevent something worse. Killing someone, even to save three others, is unpleasant (evil). Sir. Bernard Williams
