Definition
This is the name given to the process that a performer goes through when they make and act or decisions.
The information processing model
Input - Information from the display (senses), selective attention.
Decision making - Selective appropriate response from memory.
Output - Information sent to muscles to carry out the response.
Feedback - Received via self and/or others.
Example 1: Golfer driving
Input - Looking at the ball before hitting
Decision making - Where to hit it, where the wind is coming from, which club to use.
Output - Where the ball landed,
Feedback - How successful was the shot.
Example 2: Footballer penalty (Taker)
Input - Where the goalkeeper is, where the ball is.
Decision making - Where to place the ball.
Output - Where the ball goes, how hard to hit it.
Feedback - How successful the shot was. Is the crowd celebrating.
Type of Feedback
Intrinsic - Information a performer receives from within.
Kinaesthetic - Received by receptors in the muscles that where used.
Extrinsic - Information a performer receives about their performance from outside themselves such as from a coach.
