MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Digestive-The function of the digestive system is digestion and absorption. Digestion is the breakdown of food into small molecules, which are then absorbed into the body.
Urinary-
The urinary system produces, stores and eliminates urine, the fluid waste excreted by the kidneys. The kidneys make urine by filtering wastes and extra water from blood

DIGESTIVE ENZYMES
-
-
Amylase-Helps digest carbs and breaks starches into sugar- secreted by salvitory glands and pancreas
LAYERS OF GI TRACT
Submucosa-A loose connective tissue layer, with larger blood vessels, lymphatics, nerves, and contains mucous secreting glands
Smooth Muscle Layer- layers of smooth muscle are used for peristalsis, to move food down through the gut
Mucosa-A lining epithelium, including glandular tissue, an underlying layer of loose connective tissue called the lamina propria provides vascular support for the epithelium, and has mucosal glands. Products of digestion pass into the capillaries. Lymphoid follicles, and plasma cells are also often found here. A thin double layer of smooth muscle is present - the muscularis mucosa for local movement of the mucosa
