Digestive/Urinary Luz Ponce Period 5
Major Functions of the Urinary/Digestive system
Urinary: produces,stores,and eliminates urine
Digestive: Breaks down food into small molecules.
Digestive Enzymes
Amylase:Helps break own large molecules into small molecules.
Pepsin:Helps break down proteins into amino acids.
Trypsin: breaks down proteins
Pancreatic lipase: Break down apart fats.
Deoxyribonuclease and ribonuclease: Break bonds in nucleic acids like DNA and RNA
Gastrin: Signals secretion of gastric acid.
Cholecystokinin: Signals secretion of pancreatic enzymes.
Secretin: Signals secretion of water and bicarbonate from the pancreas.
Ghrelin: Signals when you are hungry
Gastric inhibitory polypeptide: stops gastric secretion/causes release of insulin in response to high blood glucose levels.

Location: The mouth,abdominal, and anus

Major organs of the Urinary/Digestive System
Urinary
Nerves in the bladder:Alter a person when its time to urinate/empty bladder
Urethra:Allows urine to pass outside of the body.
Two Sphincter Muscles: Keep urine from leaking by closing tightly around the opening of the bladder
Bladder:Relax and expand to store urine and contract/flatten to empty urine through urethra
Two Ureters:carry urine from kidneys to bladder
Two Kidneys:remove liquid waste from the blood in the form of the urine
