Strategy for Dealing with unseen Poetry
Step One
Read the poem. Work out what it is about.
Step Two
Read the Poem again. Think about who the speaker is in relation to the poem and what the message is.
Step Three
Think about how the poem makes you feel at each point. break the poem into stanzas and make notes on what you think/feel in each one.
Step Four
Pick out key words/ phrases and structure points (examples: Repetition/Rhyme scheme) that are being used to make you feel that way. Label these in the poem

DEFINITION
A break or pause throughout a line in a poem
Top Tips for poem analysis
Start with a BRIEF summary of the poem
Work chronologically through the poem
Use quotes from the poem as evidence.
Try to embed them in your sentences and refer to specific vocabulary.
Focus on key words and phrases
Describe how it makes you feel and why
Talk about how it makes you feel at each point
